As a parent, it’s natural to want to protect your child from any and all harm, but sometimes there are things that are beyond our control.
Allergies are a perfect example as there is evidence to suggest that allergies may be genetic. Allergies occur when the body’s immune system overreacts to a foreign substance like pollen or pet dander or certain foods. That doesn’t cause a reaction.
In most people, the tendency to develop allergies is often hereditary. For instance, you’re more likely to develop allergies if you have a family history of asthma, but just because asthma runs in the family doesn’t always mean that your child will inherit it.
There’s no surefire way to prevent allergies, but understanding your family’s history will help you better manage them. If you have concerns about your child’s allergies, be sure to talk to their pediatrician.
