Summer’s just around the corner, which means long, sunny days, enjoying the outdoors with temperatures rising. There are extra precautions to take.
You should watch the time between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. That is when the heat index is usually highest.
If you’re outside during this time, make sure to monitor your body and don’t overdo it. Practice caution, especially when temperatures are 90 and over, children shouldn’t play outside for more than 30 minutes at these temperatures to stay hydrated.
Heat exhaustion is when your body isn’t able to regulate your body’s core temperature. Staying hydrated is the best way to prevent it.
Make sure you have access to water. Use sunscreen, make sure to use sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays. Have an SPF of 30 or more and when you are in water, reapply every two hours.
If you plan on staying outside for long, dress appropriately. Wear loose fitting and light colored clothing, sunglasses that have 99 to a hundred percent of UVA and UVB Ray protection, a wide brimmed hat, and even carry an umbrella with you if you think you’ll need shade. And don’t forget to have fun!
