Imagine feeling hopeful, thinking positively and acting out in joy, even in a world known for dishing out difficulties. As you are all probably well aware, depression is a terrible condition, which has been seriously affecting millions of Americans for years.

Depression negatively impacts how someone feels, thinks, and acts and often makes life seem unlivable. This is frustrating for sure, but there is hope, and there are many different things that you can try to get out of the darkness and into the light.

Once again, one thing you can do is talk to encouraging people who know you care about you and want to know how you are feeling. Get outside for a walk.

Even if it’s a short one, the fresh air and the natural light combined with some light exercise in the midst of creation will do more than you think it can to watch or read something that always and without fail makes you laugh. Laughter does not seem possible when you’re feeling depressed.

But self-induced laugh therapy has been shown to part the darkest of clouds and even shift your brain chemicals over to the positive. Listen to your favorite music or music that has a positive message.

And last but not least go see a doctor or a psychologist and let them know about your struggles. They can offer you some medical options for you to try. Depression will try to bring you down, but there are answers and solutions for you.

I’m Dr. David Long. That was the long story short!
